PDHPE

Shire Christian teaches Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) to all Year 7 to 10 students and offers the course as an elective for students in Years 11 and 12. The PDHPE course seeks to contribute to the social, emotional, physical and spiritual development of students.

Physical Activity and Sports Studies (PASS) is also offered to students in Year 9 and 10.

The Year 7 to 10 PDHPE course seeks to help students develop their understanding of, and ability to respond to changing community values, new technologies, media influences, environmental concerns, changing family structures and employment patterns. Our school is committed to teaching these concepts and issues from a biblical perspective so that students will appreciate how Christians respond to sensitive matters such as mental health, drug use, sexual health and nutrition.

Learning in PDHPE encourages young people to take a positive approach to managing their lives and equips them with skills for current and future challenges. Shire Christian encourages students to trust in God as they meet these challenges.

Part of this course involves practical physical education, where students have the opportunity to develop their sports skills and learn how to participate in a range of different sporting activities. Shire Christian offers a unique regular sports program where students have the opportunity to participate, on a weekly basis, in scheduled practical lessons during the week. On Friday afternoon, our students are involved in a sports program where some features of the PDHPE course are integrated. The school does this to maximise the time that each student spends in meaningful physical activity.
